![]() Together, the follow-up ministry of Haven of Rest enables men to have continuing support from the Mission after they leave the program. This way, they are not alone as they relearn through experience how to handle real-world issues and the tough times that come to everyone. We try to provide departing Residents with additional encouragement and support to help them strengthen their resolve and commitment. Since the Alumni have gained the knowledge necessary during their stay at the Mission to prevent relapse, they only need to apply this knowledge to their daily lives. Sometimes they begin associating with friends from their past who provide a strong negative influence exerted on them through repeated temptations, which can ultimately cause them to relapse. ![]() However, this success can quickly vanish if they revert back to their old ways of coping with problems. When they leave, they have a strong sense of purpose and added meaning to their lives. The Resident’s lives are stabilized and their problems brought under control through the structured and sheltered environment at the Mission. The men’s Alumni Association meets every Tuesday night at the Mission. The Association provides education and fellowship, as well as opportunities to serve. The Alumni Association is a network of former residents who come together to help encourage one another. It is a multifaceted ministry and consists of AfterCare and the Alumni Association. The program provides additional encouragement and accountability during the transition from the Mission to the world. Our Alumni Program is an outreach ministry for the men and women leaving the Mission’s residential programs. Haven of Rest’s education aspect of the Learning Center allows men and women to improve their math and reading skills as needed, and enhance their computer skills enabling them to be more employable. AfterCare emphasizes the importance of strengthening their relationship with God. This ministry provides encouragement and accountability to help them deal with real-life situations. AfterCare is a personalized follow-up ministry to help men and women during the transition from the Mission to their new home. The objective is to offer these individuals the assistance and encouragement they need to keep their newly established lives on track. Through this AfterCare ministry, we maintain regular contact with former residents who are once again living on their own. For most of the nearly 500 youngsters who attend, the party with its puppets, costumed characters, presents and treats is a never-to-be-forgotten childhood experience.Our AfterCare and Alumni Programs are designed to encourage and support former residents to maintain a life free of addiction through regular events like Bible studies, group meetings and guest speakers. Traditional Holiday Meals – Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter meals provide many who would otherwise spend these days hungry and alone a special time of enjoyment and encouragement.Īt Christmas time, inner-city children are invited to participate in Haven of Rest’s traditional “Happy Birthday Jesus” party. They benefit not only from learning the fundamentals of basketball and volleyball, but also from interacting with leaders who model wholesome, Christ-centered lifestyles. Hope Sports Camp is a special summer outreach for inner-city boys and girls in grades three through eight. These bags are then distributed the week before Easter to hundreds of homeless and struggling people in the community.Īn Annual Community Summer Picnic brings together hundreds of low-income families for a time of fun and encouragement. Operation Hope Tote is a special outreach where individuals, church groups, school classes, civic organizations and businesses are asked to fill purple Hope Tote bags with personal care items (such as toothpaste, soap, deodorant, brush, comb, shampoo, etc.). Through a variety of activities, we reach out to touch the lives of those living at or near the poverty level. ![]() Haven of Rest serves the community by providing meals, clothing and shelter while sharing the love of Jesus Christ at a number of free events such as our Annual Community Summer Picnic, Hope Sports Camp for kids, Happy Birthday Jesus Party and toys for Christmas.
